St Lawrence's Church, Warslow We are fortunate that our church, St Lawrence, is close to the school and the children are able to visit for services and as part of their Religious studies. We see the parish as an extension of the school community. When the children take part in celebrations in church, parishioners, as well as parents and friends, are always welcome. St Lawrence's strikingly simple interior is home to a small and welcoming congregation, who do their best to worship God in the beauty of holiness that this church engenders. The chancel has beautiful William Morris stained glass windows, and a unique set of mosaics surrounding the windows created by Italian prisoners-of-war early in the 20th Century. Our Vicar is the Revd Fr John Baines S.C.L. He was appointed in 2018 to be the first Vicar of this new benefice, after its boundaries were extended to include Warslow and Elkstones. Prior to moving here, his parish ministry had all been within the Diocese of Derby, where he had, at various times, served as Spiritual Director of Cursillo, Rural Dean, Police Chaplain, and Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands. He enjoys ministry in this rural location, and is very 'at home' in the Peak District, having been born and brought up in a rural farming community. His faith in Jesus Christ is core to his life, and he seeks to serve God and his people as best he can, but he does have hobbies to bring balance to life! Fr John is also a governor at our school and a neighbouring school, St Bartholomew's in Longnor.
