Wow! Friday seems to be coming round quicker and quicker each week!
Thank you to all those who were able to join us for our worship and celebration assembly yesterday. We look forward to welcoming you all again next week and every Thursday morning.
Thank you also to all our volunteers. There are too many of you fantastic people to name individually, however, we want you to know that each and everyone of you is valued and thanked from the bottom of our hearts. Your help, whether it is visible in school or behind the scenes, allows us to do even more with the children and to make our school a better place. Thank you!
Thank you to Mr Wilkinson (Principal at Bursley Academy) for releasing Mrs Green for two days this week. Mrs Green (an experienced teacher) supported both staff and pupils delivering whole class teaching and some small group work, while also providing some CPD (continuing professional development) activities for the staff. Mrs Green has agreed to be our named INCO (Inclusion Coordinator). Therefore, we will have regular contact with her and be able to benefit from her wealth of experience. Thank you Mrs Green. We appreciate your help and support.

Please try to ensure your child is in school as much as is possible, unless of course they are ill. A reminder that if your child is going to be absent from school you must ring school at 8:30 on the first morning they are absent, and this must be followed up with a letter explaining the absence on their return to school. Thank you for your cooperation.

Middle School Admissions – September 2017
Year 4 children and their parents are invited to an open evening at Churnet View Middle School on Monday 26th September 2016 at 6:00pm. Hopefully, you will have received a letter from the school (sent home via your child yesterday).
After School Clubs
Our after school clubs all started this week. Thank you to all the staff, helpers and children for making the clubs possible. If anyone else is interested in supporting us at any of these clubs, listening to readers, accompanying the children to swimming, we would love to hear from you. We are particularly short of helpers for Art and Craft club on a Wednesday evening.

Please remember to send any monies in for clubs in a named envelope. Please also send a snack and drink plus a change of clothes for football and dance. Outrageous outdoors will also need a change of clothes (preferably old clothing) plus Wellingtons and a coat.
As mentioned last week, we have a new Facebook page: Manifold CofE Academy. We are hoping to use the page to share photographs and examples of work in addition to providing you with updates regarding school life. Hopefully you all received a copy of our new consent form earlier this week. If you have not yet returned your completed form, may we urge you to do so on Monday 27th September as we are really keen to share our work with you and the wider community; however do not want to do so until we are certain that all families have given us permission. As safeguarding is our number one priority, children’s surnames will not be used under any circumstances. We would request parents also respect this rule when making comments under posts. Advice regarding this matter was sought at a level 2 safeguarding course (with police officers, social workers and health professionals). Unfortunately, Facebook settings do not allow us to request approval from admin for comments; therefore your support in both respecting our request and in monitoring activity will be greatly appreciated. Staff will also be closely monitoring the site and will endeavour to delete any comments as quickly as possible where they identify individual children. Hopefully though we can all work together to protect our children while sharing their successes with our immediate and wider community.
More and more children of a younger age are accessing the internet. One of the features that is overlooked by parents but is a useful tool to help protect your children is ‘Restrictions’. By activating ‘Restrictions’ you can limit features on any Apple devices including in-app purchases, Facetime, Safari & Siri. You can also set age restrictions for the type of content your children are accessing. To do this on an iPad/ iPhone go to ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ scroll down and tap ‘Restrictions’. Select ‘Enable Restrictions’, put a restrictions passcode in (this is used to change or delete the restrictions on the device) and then select the restrictions you want to put on the device. We are hoping to deliver some ESafety training for all pupils and parents in the near future. Watch this space!

Harvest – Pie and Pea Supper
Our Harvest service will take place on Thursday 20th October at 6:30pm in the school hall. We are hoping that all children will be able to join us for the first part of our service, if not the whole of the event. (Children will be able to have a lie in the next morning as it is an inset day.) If your child can not attend the service please could you inform their class teacher by Friday 1st October as we are beginning rehearsals and allocating parts!
Countyfile Ramble and Children In Need -Sunday October 9th at 2pm.
A ramble has been organised in response to Countryfile’s campaign where they are hoping as many people as possible will join them in harnessing the power of our rural landscape to raise money for some of Britain’s most disadvantaged youngsters over the weekend 8th-9th October. Further details are available in from the school office.
Please accept my sincere apologies for the date error in last week’s ‘dates for your diary’ section. To celebrate European Languages Day, children will have the opportunity to learn some basic Welsh (Roald Dahl’s birthplace) on Monday 26th September.
Staffing and Trustees
As mentioned last week, the Trustees, following Mr Cooper’s recommendation, have agreed to help the school financially this term. The money will be used to secure a teacher to cover Y1/2 while Mrs Harris is absent from work. Mrs Etchells will be teaching in there for the immediate future. She will be present at the Parent Forum to say hello to you all. Due to Mrs Etchell teaching, I will commence my original teaching commitments next week (Monday afternoon: PPA covers Y1/2, Y3/4, all day Wednesday and Thursday afternoon in early years). The rest of my week will be centred on carrying out the role of a Principal (book scrutinies, lesson observations, teacher and pupil support to name a few things). Parents’ evening will be held over two dates to try and accommodate all families. Monday 7th November 3:30-5:00pm and Tuesday 8th November 5:00-6:30pm. Appointment sign-up sheets will be available soon. If these times and dates are not suitable, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you at a more convenient time.
Don’t forget that ALL our parents are automatically part of our PFA! If you would like us to consider a particular event please let us know. Please be reminded that the next PFA meeting will take place after the Parent Forum meeting on 26th September at 3:15pm. The meeting will include discussing our first event, Harvest Celebration on Thursday 19th October at 6:30pm. Childcare will be provided (if necessary) to assist parents in attending the meeting. Coffee/tea and cakes will also be provided so please do try to come along. You will be very welcome. Before the meeting, please consider what time of day is best for you to attend a meeting and where you would like to meet (school or local pub) as we want as many people as possible to attend future meetings.
I was delighted to read in the local paper that an Interim Minister of Alstonefield, Butterton, Ilam, and Warslow with Elkstones & Wetton has recently been appointed. I am hoping to contact Prebendary Lawrence Price over the next couple of weeks to invite him into school and to hopefully lead us in worship.
